Vermont Update:
Go EC!--- Emergency Contraception (EC) went over the counter last fall, and now EC collaborative practice is on its way in Vermont. Collaborative practice will increase accessibility for ALL women seeking EC. Despite the over the counter status, some women still need a prescription to get EC for insurance purposes or because they are under 18. Collaborative practice allows prescribers & pharmacists to work together so that women can get EC directly from the pharmacy, a crucial time saving step since EC is most effective if used within 72 hours. Vermont's legislature passed a collaborative practice bill in 2006, and implementation has been in the works ever since. The only thing left to do is train interested pharmacists. We hope collaborative practice will be in full effect this fall. Keep your eyes out!
In the meantime, EC is always available at Planned Parenthood. Click here for more information, or call 1-800-230-PLAN to be connected to the nearest Planned Parenthood Health Center.
